In the early December 2010 Lenexpo JSC hosted delegates of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs Members General Meeting for two days session covering formal issues on elections and organisational issues and the conference on economic and exhibition industry topics.
Formal Issues. Addmittance and Elections
The Meeting was opened by the President Welcome Address of Sergey Alexeev, followed by addresses by representatives of Russian business associations and St.Petersburg Government. Whereupon the RUEF members approved the admission of new members and held elections of the Union Heads, Board of Directors and Committees Compositions.
Sergey Alekseev, Director General, Lenexpo (S.Petersburg) was given credence to as the President once again.
Vladislav Malkevich, Director General, Expocentr (Moscow) and Valery Barulin, Director General, Nizhny Novgorod Fair (Nizhny Novgorod) were reelected as the Vice Presidents.
Board of Directors was approved in the following composition: Alexander Baranov (Uralexpocentre, Ekaterinburg), Leonid Govorov (Moscow CCI, Moscow), Petr Gritsenko (Baltic Expo, Kaliningrad), Yuri Zakharchenko (SOUD Sochi Exhibitions, Sochi), Andrei Kurilov (KrasnodarEXPO, Krasnodar), Ivan Malakhov (GAO VVC, Moscow), Valery Scroug (Belgorod CCI, Belgorod), Vasily Tabachikov (Kuzbass Fair, Novokuznetsk), Sergey Trofimov (RESTEC, St.Petersburg), Nariman Eldarov (ExpoConsta, Moscow).
Lyudmila Smorodova remained the RUEF Executive Director.

Conference Russian Exhibition Industry: Road to Further Development
The second day of the Meeting was devoted to the theme Russian Exhibition Industry: Road to Further Development covering presentations of acknowledged economists, exhibition professionals and officials.
Jochen Witt (jwc GmbH, Cologne, Germany) gave review of the current state of economy throughout the world, as well as latest developments and trends in exhibition business with special focus on Russia.
Jörg Beier (Prof. Dr., Cooperative State University, Ravensburg, Germany) highlighted Delphi Study results on the forecast of the global exhibition industry development up to 2020 including future opportunities and threads and recommendations for exhibition business management.
Igor Nikolayev (FBK, Professor of the Higher School of Economy University, Moscow) gave the general Russian Economy to-day status review answering the questions: How do industries come out of the recession? Who is the leader? Who is the outsider? Which industries are more advantageous?
Aleksey Yakovlev(Committee for Economy Development, Industry Policy and Trade of Saint-Petersburg City Government) emphasized acute issues and scenarios for development of relations between government authorities and exhibition business by the example of Saint-Petersburg during his presentation “Government and Exhibition Business – Prospects for Interaction and Cooperation”
The whole significant issue was the topic on EXPO-2010 – Results of the Participation of the Russian Federation. Ivan Malakhov (GAO VVC, Moscow) and Igor Prudnikov ( Rusnanotech Forum Fund for the Nanotechnology Development, Moscow) shared with auditory their experience on participation in EXPO, specific characteristics of tenders carried out to select organizers, exhibition community contribution to Russian exposition on EXPO, logistical, financial and legal issues, as well as effective communications during preparation for and participation in the EXPO and lessons to be learned.
Petr Gritsenko (Baltic-Expo, Kaliningrad) in his presentation State-of-the-Art Technologies in Business Processes focused on Communications among RUEF members enhancement and implementation of RUEF corporate conference network.
The theme was followed by the topic Advanced Russian Innovative Developments in the Sphere of Simultaneous Translation based on radio technologies presented byNicolay Frolov (Radio Guide).
This session was highly appreciated by all the participants.
Saturated social program of the General Meeting including excursions and Dinners in Yusupov and Constantine Palaces as well as the Gala Presentation and Dinner of Lenexpo and Expoforum Companies gave to the participants plenty of opportunities for informal networking as well as unforgettable impressions of visiting these pieces of arts.
The next RUEF Meeting will be held in the Summer of 2011 on the basis of Expo Volga (Samara).
